OCPP Dismantles Wall Street Journal Attack on Oregon Tax Measure
OCPP has received lots of emails regarding an egregiously misleading editorial published by the Wall Street Journal and circulated by politicians and some in the business community still fuming over Oregonians' approval of Measures 66 and 67. The editorial argues that recent data by the Legislative Revenue Office shows that 10,000 wealthy Oregonians have fled the state as a result of Measure 66, approved by voters last year.
The Journal's claim is baseless.
Because of the level of interest on the issue, we though that you might want to read our BlueOregon.com blog post Facts (and Logic) Go Missing Again in a Wall Street Journal Editorial, in which we dismantle the Journal's arguments.
We also recommend reading responses from our colleagues at the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (Dear Wall Street Journal: No Need to File a Missing Persons Report: Oregon's High-Income Taxpayers Have Not "Vanished" (PDF)) and the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (Many Wealthy Moving Down, Not Out). Happy Holidays!
OCPP wishes you and your family happy holidays.
