With immense gratitude for his vision and dedication, the Oregon Center for Public Policy today bids farewell to its founder and long-time executive director, Chuck Sheketoff.
As part of a leadership transition process that began several years ago, Chuck has chosen to step down from the helm of the Center. Former board member Angela Martin will be serving as interim director until the completion of a search for a new executive director.
Chuck shares the following thoughts about the transition:
There’s no question that this past year was mercurial for the Center. Staff did great policy analysis and outreach, and we scored some significant policy wins, while the search for a new executive director was unsuccessful.
For the good of the organization, and so it could best continue to move forward with its important work on behalf of low- and middle-income Oregonians, I’ve decided to step aside as executive director and have a talented, skilled, and respected former board member, Angela Martin, shepherd the organization through a time of rebuilding the board and recruiting my successor.
Angela has been a colleague and friend for many years and I am sure she will do a terrific job of rebuilding the board and helping them engage in an inclusive, robust, and successful recruitment effort.
I look forward to assisting Angela so that her board and organizational development work, and the search and transition to the next executive director, go well.
Chuck’s tireless work on behalf of low-and-middle income Oregonians has made our state a better place. His 20 years of leadership leaves a permanent legacy through the ongoing work and growth of the Center, Oregon’s leading progressive think tank.
The Center is excited to honor Chuck by naming our summer research position, designed to support the professional development of public policy analysts early in their careers, the Chuck Sheketoff Public Policy Fellowship.
Please join us in appreciation for all Chuck has done to improve Oregon by leaving a message of thanks here. You can also help honor Chuck by making a gift to the Chuck Sheketoff Public Policy Fellowship.
On behalf of the OCPP community and fighters for social justice everywhere, thank you, Chuck!
